| I don't have a "store
bought" pattern for the socks. I saw a pair and bought them so I
could figure them out. At a gift shop the socks cost $12.00 (US) and
they were adorable, but a little too pricey for my budget!! What I
do is get socks with a fold down top (crew socks) that is stretchy.
Then I use crochet thread and do chain stitch into the sock as an
anchor, then make 5 chain stitches add a bead, do 5 chain stitches.
Count 4 "stitches" in the SOCK and do another chain stitch into the
sock as an anchor, repeat until I have gone around the sock one
time. Then the second time around the sock I use the same process
but I anchor my stitches in the 4 stitches SPACE in the sock edging
that I made the first time.
Variations: For fancier beads I will
string the beads onto the yarn FIRST and then crochet them into the
sock. You will have to remove the crochet hook to slide the bead
onto the loop each time you crochet a loop, but it is a nice look.
(Use a large crewel needle to thread the beads onto your crochet
thread.)
If you have smaller beads, you might
want to pre-thread them and use 2 or 3 in each loop.
FAQ-
I use the crochet thread for the
socks but a smaller yarn will work as well. You could also use
embroidery thread or a thin ribbon.
Any type of beads work for these
socks. For my niece who is a toddler I used mainly colored pony
beads that would match her clothing. You can also get theme pony
beads, hearts, stars and animals- they are GREAT also. Decorative or
fancy buttons can be beautiful on the socks- just be sure that they
are washable or plan to hand wash. |
